Georgian President discusses country's European integration in Rome

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili discussed the country’s further European integration at a meeting with Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in Rome. The sides stressed the importance of cooperation within the Eastern Partnership, the Georgian Presidential Administration said.

Rompuy and Saakashvili underscored the importance of closer and more active cooperation within this program. It was noted that this program plays an important role for the South Caucasus countries’ involvement in European policy.

Saakashvili and Rompuy also discussed talks between Georgia and Russia on the Russian Federation’s WTO membership.

Later, Saakashvili met with the president of Chile, Sebastian Pinera. The sides discussed a wide range of relations and economic reforms carried out in their countries.

The Georgian president is in Rome as part of Italy’s celebration of its 150th anniversary of unification.
