Police chopper crashes in Istanbul

Pilot of a police helicopter that crashed on Friday in Istanbul's Beykoz district survived the accident as four passengers on board the chopper were still missing, police sources said, Anadolu Agency reported.

Sources identified the pilot as Kemal Ozdemir, deputy chief of the Istanbul police department.

Sources said efforts were underway to find the four passengers, identifying one of the passengers as Ragip Ali Birgen, head of the police informatics department.

Istanbul governor said the helicopter crashed into the sea off coast of Beykoz of the Istanbul Strait.

Governor has said one person swam out to safety. It's not immediately known what caused the crash.

Bodies of four people, who lost their lives in helicopter crash in Istanbul's Beykoz district but reported as missing earlier, were found on Friday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The bodies were brought to a port belonging to Istanbul Strait Command.
