Iran plans military drills

05 May 2011 [14:07] - TODAY.AZ
Deputy Army commander Brigadier General Ali Arasteh announced plans to stage military drills to test combat preparedness, Iran Daily reported with reference to IRNA.

"In the maneuvers we will use new weapons designed and produced by Iranian engineers," Arasteh told. "The military equipment of the ground forces of the Army is indigenous."

He added that Iranians had designed and manufactured the advanced weapons.

Western sanctions against the national defense industries had been ineffective, he noted. The Iranian Army is ready to firmly respond to any aggression by foreign forces," Arasteh added.

The military is regularly monitoring developments in the region and has upgraded the defense and deterrent capabilities, he said.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi announced the Iranian armed forces have received two new types of weapons -- anti-tank and anti-helicopter weapons.
