Georgia to host European individual women chess, rapid chess championships

Georgia is scheduled to host the 2011 European Individual Women Chess Championship and the 2011 European Individual Women Rapid Chess Championship in May, Xinhua reported.

According to the Georgian Chess Federation, 133 players from 26 federations across Europe have applied to compete in the annual event which inaugurated in 2000 in the Georgian Black Sea resort of Batumi.

The championship will be played out in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi between May 7 and 18 while the rapid championship starts immediately after in Georgia's second largest city of Kutaisi from May 19 to 22.

Of the top seeded players for championships, 2005 European runner-up from Georgia Nana Dzagnidze leads Russian sisters Nadezhda and Tatiana Kosintseva, followed by Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine, Anna Muzychuk from Slovenia and Viktorija Cmilyte of Lithuania.
