Turkish senior sergeant killed in armed attack

A senior sergeant was killed in an armed attack in southeastern Turkey.

Unidentified assailants wearing masks opened fire on two senior sergeants with the 21st Gendarmerie Border Brigade in Yuksekova town of the southeastern province of Hakkari on Sunday.

Durdu Capar and Yalcin Bozok were rushed to hospital by military helicopters.

Capar, who was seriously injured in the attack, lost his life despite all efforts by doctors.

He will be laid to rest in his hometown, Canakkale, in northwestern Turkey.
