Two terrorists wounded in Istanbul explosion

22 April 2011 [16:45] - TODAY.AZ
A potential terrorist attack went wrong and wounded two in Istanbul's Tuzla district on Friday.

Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said they had confirmed that the two had ties with a terrorist organization, Xinhua reported.

The explosion took place at around 9 a.m. in a park near the Tuzla State Hospital, wounding two people, 23-year-old Mazlum Singil and 18-year-old Gulizar Turhan.

Emergency medical teams arrived at the scene immediately and took the two to the hospital.

Singil, who was in critical condition, was later taken to the burn unit at the Dr. Lutfi Kirdar Kartal Training and Research hospital.

Police teams are investigating the incident.

The explosion was caused by a sound bomb, a minor explosive device that causes a loud noise and usually minor damage.

Private Channel CNNTurk reported that the preliminary investigation suggested the explosion took place when the two were fiddling with a package in their hands while sitting on a park bench.

Witnesses at the scene said the two were asking about the direction of a school before the explosion.
