Police frees people taken hostage during armed incident in Iran's Kurdistan province

A shooting took place between gunmen and police in the Sanandaj town in  Iran ’s  Kurdistan province, the Mehr news agency reported.

The Kurdistan Province Police Department confirmed the armed incident in the Hasanabad village of Sanandaj.

The shooting, which began at 3:00 am local time, lasted until midnight, the agency said. The gunmen and police fought at the village entrance.

According to witnesses, the unknown suspect took several people as hostage. After that, the police arrived at the scene and the shooting ensued. The Kurdistan province officials are not disclosing the details regarding this incident.

The Fars News agency reported that the law enforcement agencies’ officers and police were able to free the hostages. Several terrorists were killed during the shooting and others escaped.

The Press TV reported that four 'Salafi-linked' terrorists have been killed.

Several terror attacks have been recorded in the Iranian province of Kurdistan in the last few weeks.

On April 2 a border attack at the post in Marivan killed four and injured five people. Earlier, an armed terror gang attacked traffic policemen in the Sanandaj town and injured a policeman.

The Iranian branch of PKK claimed responsibility for an assassination committed in Iran’s Kurdistan province, PJAK official site reported on April 4.
