Minister: Construction of Khudoni HPP in Georgia to be completed within six years

22 April 2011 [14:59] - TODAY.AZ
The construction of the Khudoni hydropower plant will be completed within six years, the Georgian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alexander Khetaguri said on Thursday after the government meeting.

He said that the HPP will generate 20 percent of Georgia's electricity consumption, and 90 days after registration of the project the company Continental Energy will transfer two million dollars to the public budget.

The construction of the Khudoni HPP will not affect electricity prices, but will contribute to its preservation, Khetaguri said.

The Georgian government’s decision to build Khudoni HPP was announced by the Prime Minister Nika Gilauri at the meeting. He said that the talks on the construction have been held with the Indian company Continental Energy, which already underwent a technical inspection.

"This is a 650-megawatt project worth one billion dollars," Gilauri said.
