Kars demolishes Armenian-Turkish friendship monument

18 April 2011 [14:16] - TODAY.AZ
Municipality of the Turkish town of Kars began to demolish the monument to the Armenian-Turkish friendship, CNN Turk reported.

The Kars municipality decided to demolish the monument earlier. During his visit to Kars in January, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the monument to be demolished, calling it "ugly".

The monument was built during the era of pro-Armenian Kars’s ex-mayor, Naif Alibeyoglu, in 2008.

The statue, about 30 meters high, reflects two figures rushing to each other. It is set on a hill located 40 kilometers from the Armenian border.
