Turkey, Iran to open border gate for trade

15 April 2011 [10:24] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey and Iran will open their first border gate on Saturday to facilitate bilateral trade, local media reported Thursday, Xinhua reported.

The Kapikoy-Razi Border Gate between Turkey’s eastern province of Van and Iran would be inaugurated on Saturday, allowing legal border trade to be conducted for the first time, the Anatolia news agency reported, quoting Van Governor Munir Karaloglu.

"We hope that more border gates would get opened along the Turkish-Iranian border. We want to have more room for border trade and want to set free zones," Karaloglu was quoted as saying.

There was no border gate along the 320 km-long Turkish-Iranian border through which legal trade could take place at present, he said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, State Ministers Hayati Yazici and Cevdet Yilmaz and Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi will attend the opening ceremony of the border gate, according to the report.
