Turkey will have one of world’s safest NPP – "Rosatom"

04 April 2011 [12:57] - TODAY.AZ
Russia will build the world’s safest nuclear power plant, the head of Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom has said.

Speaking about the incident at the Japanese Fukushima nuclear power plant (NPP) in an interview with the Turkish news agency Cihan.

Sergei Boiarkin said that unlike the Fukushima NPP the one to be built in Turkey will be a modern and therefore more solid one.

"The project of that [Fukushima] NPP is very old. While the one we will build in Turkey will be one of the world’s safest NPPs," said he.

"It will resist a 9-point magnitude quake. Even the explosion of a plane won’t have any effect on the NPP," Boiarkin added.

He also said that the new NPP to be built in Turkey will have 3rd generation reactors.

Japanese Fukushima NPP was largely affected by strong quake and subsequent massive tsunami more than three weeks ago, and the Japanese engineers are still struggling to prevent a radioactive leakage into the sea.
