Turkish citizen of Armenian origin Daron Acemoglu did not accept the government’s proposal to be Turkey’s permanent representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Vatan newspaper reported.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that they offered Professor Daron Acemoglu to be Turkey’s permanent representative to Paris-based OECD.

"Ethnic and religious discrimination of the citizens of Turkish Republic is inadmissible for us. Everyone, whose ability we believe in, can be Turkey’s representative. We offered this post to honorable Acemoglu several months ago. He is one of the most famous and esteemed economists of the world. Turkey is proud of him. Our Prime Minister also met with Daron Acemoglu. Acemoglu said such a proposal was an honor for him, but he could not accept the proposal because of his current scientific studies and said he would think of holding such a post in future," he said.

Daron Acemoglu was born in Istanbul in 1967. He studied at the University of York and London School of Economics. He is head of economics department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
