International oil-gas conference held in Tbilisi

Today, an International Oil, Gas, Infrastructure and Energy Conference has started in Tbilisi. The conference will last 2 days and near 150 guests attend the event.

Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri, Head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia Philip Dimitrov, Director-General of BP and representatives of other Ministries and companies have made speeches at the conference. Importance of Azerbaijan’s implemented international oil, gas and infrastructure projects was noted at the conference.

A film about Shahdeniz II was demonstrated, at the conference. Gulmira Rzayeva, the Research Fellow in the Economic Analysis and Global Affairs Department at the Centre for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan has also made a speech.

Rzayeva told reporters that the conference was important for energy safety: "I told participants about Azerbaijan’s position about energy safety in may speech. I spoke about Azerbaijan’s role in European market. Noted that, Azerbaijan intends to strengthen its position and enter the European market after putting of Shahdeniz II into operation. It doesn’t mean that, Azerbaijan will be changed to gas exporting monopolist or the company like Gazprom. We only want to be changed to a player in European market. Because of there are 500 000 000 has users in European market".

Rzayeva also noted that Azerbaijan had sufficiently resources to have best role in European market. According to her, after launch of Shahdeniz II, Azerbaijan’s gas production will reach 55 bcm: "This is sufficiently greater number. 14 bcm of gas was planed for domestic consumption, 35-40 bcm – for export, in that year. Event, according to SOCAR’s official information, this number can be reached 70 bcm".
