Tehran's Prosecutor: Information about Mousavi and Karroubi’s arrest is false

02 March 2011 [20:40] - TODAY.AZ
Tehran’s Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dovlatabadi denied the opposition leaders Mehdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi's arrest and detention under house arrest, and said that this information is untrue, Iranian MEHR  news agency reported.

When commenting on the events in Iran on March 1 Dovlatabadi said that some anti-government websites called the people to hold rallies, but such a major event has not taken place.

Clashes between police and protestors have occurred throughout Tehran. The protestors demanded the liberation of the Iranian opposition leaders Mehdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi. Police used tear gas and truncheon to disperse participants, the opposition kaleme.com website reported.

Commenting on information relating to Mousavi and Karroubi’s detention under house arrest with their subsequent bringing to the liability Dovlatabadi said that foreign news websites spread false information, Mousavi and Karroubi are at their homes and it is wrong to use the phrase "detainees under house arrest" towards them.

Two weeks ago, Iranian authorities banned protestors from visiting the apartments of Mousavi and Karrubi. There is currently no accurate information about where the opposition leaders are being detained.

However, Fars news agency reported that currently they are detained at a house organized by the security forces. Karroubi's Saham News website reported that the opposition leaders have been detained in Heshmatiye prison.
