02 February 2011 [11:47] - TODAY.AZ
The dictatorship in Iran is more brutal and dangerous than in Tunisia and Egypt, said Ardashir Amir Arjmand, advisor of representative of the reformist camp, Mir-Hossein Moussavi, who was the main rival of the ruling party and a candidate for the presidential elections in 2009 in Iran.

If the government allows conducting a rally on the day of anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution (Feb. 11), it will become clear whether the Iranian people is pleased with the power as the peoples of Tunisia and Egypt, Arjmand said in an interview with 'Kəleme' website.

According to Arjmand, the governments of Egypt and Tunisia do not use religion as a tool to silence people. He urged the ruling party to respect the Iranian people and follow democracy.

The lastest presidential elections in Iran were held on June 12, 2009. Incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad received 62.63% of votes, while his main rival, former Prime Minister Mir Hossein Mousavi won 33.75% of votes. Mousavi accused the government of rigging the election.

Protests led to clashes between the police and opposition supporters. During the clashes, many people died and 1,032 people were arrested. Several Western countries have expressed concern about the tense atmosphere after the presidential elections in Iran.
