Iran ranks 31st in science production

Secretary of "the International Workshop on Science and Technology Policymaking and Sustainable Development" running from January 5 to 7 in Tehran stressed Iran's astonishing progress in scientific and technological fields, and announced that the country ranked 31st in producing science.

"The Islamic Iran has promoted its position in producing science and technology and has improved the relevant indices so much that now it ranks 31st in science production among the world countries," Mohammad Hassanzadeh said on Wednesday.

He also mentioned that more than 88,000 Iranian essays have been published in creditable international journals and Iran has remarkably grown in scientific productions in recent years.

Hassanzadeh described production of domestically-made satellite carrier, Safir 2 (Ambassador 2) and Iran-made satellite Omid (Hope) as two important achievements which have placed Iran among the first ten world countries in aerospace sciences.

On February 3, 2009, Tehran placed its indigenous satellite into orbit - joining an elite group of countries capable of both producing satellites and sending them into space using domestic launchers.

Omid was sent into space by the Iranian-produced satellite carrier Safir 2 rocket, which is an upgraded model of carrier Safir 1.
