Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has placed his 1977 Peugeot 504 for auction in an exhibition of classic cars, managing director of Arvand Free Trade Zone says.
Upon an agreement by Iran's Minister of Welfare and Social Security Sadeq Mahsouli and Head of the Presidential Office Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, President Ahmadinejad's 1977 automobile will be auctioned during an exhibition of classic cars, IRNA quoted Ali Asghar Parhizgar as saying on Thursday.
Parhizgar added that the exhibition would be held in Arvand Free Trade Zone in Iran's southwestern province of Khuzestan in February.
"President Ahmadinejad's automobile will be put on diplay along with 70 other classic cars from various countries," the official further explained.
On November 22, the Iranian minister of welfare said the auctioning of President Ahmadinejad's car aims to support a national program, the Mehr Housing Plan, which will provide affordable housing for low-income Iranian households.
"In a charitable move, Ahmadinejad auctioned off his [Peugeot] automobile at a gathering of the Mehr Housing Plan donors," Mahsouli said.
