Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that four Turkish engineers were kidnapped in Afghanistan.
Selcuk Unal, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Sunday that gunmen kidnapped four Turkish engineers working for Projea Company and their driver in the eastern Afghan province of Paktia, near the border with Pakistan.
"The engineers were kidnapped during a visit to a construction project for a border police post. We informed Afghan authorities, NATO and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF). We have also launched a series of initiatives to rescue the Turkish citizens and their local driver," he said.
Afghan authorities said that a large-scale operation had been under way to find Turkish engineers and their Afghan driver.
No one has claimed responsibility yet.
