A group of Armenians living in the U.S. have filed lawsuits against Turkey, in particular, the Central Bank and Bank Ziraat demanding compensation for the property, which they lost during the events of 1915. The lawsuit has been filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles by Vartkes Eghiayan.
Three Armenians demand compensation of $63.9 million for property of "their grandparents” with area of 49.5 hectares in Adana, which now also covers Incirlik base of NATO. The plaintiffs argue they have documents proving their right to these territories. The suit notes that "Incirlik" (it is also claimed by the plaintiffs) base used by Americans brings huge profits to the Turkish government.
In July this year, a group of Armenians filed a similar suit which is known as "Davoyan case” to claim compensation for the same property, which they lost during the 1915 events.
Commenting on the issue, Head of the Assembly of Turkish American Societies Evinch Gunay said the new lawsuit is similar to the "Davoyan Case” adding that the only difference is in lawyers and plaintiffs.
According to him, a second lawsuit came after a scandal between attorney of second claim Eghiayan with a lawyer of "Davoyan case" Mark Geragos. So, Eghiayan argues that Geragos had stolen his idea of filing a lawsuit against Turkey. Therefore Eghiayan, gaining new plaintiffs, filed a similar suit.
