Georgia protests against tourist visits to Abkhazia

Georgia has called for restraining tourist visits to the occupied territories and "particularly Abkhazia," Georgian Tourism and Resorts Department Deputy Chairman Beka Jakeli said after arriving home from Athens, where he took part in a Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) meeting.

According to the official, the meeting discussed problems associated with tourism development in the region.

"Georgia made an official statement in at the meeting in connection with the occupation of Georgian territory and the illegality of tourist business in Abkhazia," he said. "Russian tourists are visiting Abkhazia in violation of all international norms and international law."

The statement was sent to all BSEC members, as well as other countries.
