"Turkey eager to cooperate with Armenia"

29 September 2010 [16:22] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday that Turkey wanted Turkish-Armenian relations to be normalized.
Davutoglu gave a conference on new world order and Turkish foreign policy's priorities in that order at John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University in Boston. Replying to a question on Turkey's relations with Armenia, Davutoglu said that Turkey and Armenia had started negotiation process in Switzerland in 2007 and signed several protocols last year. He said protocols were still valid and they would work to complete this process.

Turkish and Armenian peoples lived together for centuries and Turkey regarded Armenia as a neighbor, he said.

Davutoglu said Turkish party was ready to share and discuss history. "But doors should not be closed," he said.

The relations between Turkey and Armenia should be normalized and Turkey was eager to develop its relations with Armenia like it did with Syria and Greece, he said.

"We are ready to cooperate with Armenia. That's why we signed those protocols. There is need for a new Caucasus based on mutual respect and territorial integrity, and relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be normalized for lasting sound relations," Davutoglu said.
