PKK extends cease-fire in Turkey, media reports

20 September 2010 [16:25] - TODAY.AZ
The outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, has extended its cease-fire by a week, pro-Kurdish Fırat news agency reported Monday.
The PKK declared the unilateral cease-fire on Aug. 13 for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The cease-fire would have expired on Monday. The agency quoted members of the PKK as saying the group would assess the situation in Turkey before deciding next week whether to extend its cease-fire.

Turkey has ignored all PKK cease-fire declarations in the past and violence has continued. Nine people were killed in a roadside bomb attack on a minibus in southeastern Turkey last week that was reportedly linked to the PKK. The group, however, has denied responsibility. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
