Turkic-speaking countries to approve new International organization in Istanbul

15 September 2010 [12:27] - TODAY.AZ
The leaders of the Turkic-speaking countries intend to complete the process of creating a new international organization - the Council of Cooperation of Turkic-speaking countries (CCTC). It is expected that this will be the main result of the 10th anniversary summit, which opens today in Istanbul, Itar-Tass reported. The leaders will approve creation of the CCTC with headquarters in Istanbul and approve the CCTC Secretary General.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev voiced the idea to establish such an organization at the Antalya summit in  2006 for the first time. In 2009, the Nakhchivan forum embodied this idea in an agreement to establish a new international structure. The CCTC will be the basis for a new regional Turkic union, designed to strengthen the unity of the peoples living in similar language and cultural environment, and strengthen political and trade relations.

The summit will also discuss a wide range of international and regional issues. In addition, the agenda includes the establishment of a consultative advisory body - the Council of Elders. The Council is expected to be headed by Turkish presidential secretariat head Mustafa Isen. Leaders' meeting will precede the meeting at the level of Heads and representatives of the foreign ministries of the Turkic-speaking countries.
