Turkish university to open Armenian, Hebrew language departments

27 May 2010 [12:59] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey's Erciyes University will launch Armenian and Hebrew language departments, a university executive said on Wednesday.
Professor Metin Hulagu, deputy rector of the university in the central province of Kayseri, said that the university got permission from the Board of Higher Education.

"These two departments will accept 60 students, 30 for each, for the next year," Hulagu said.

The university is having problems in finding professors or lecturers for Armenian and Hebrew departments.

"So, we talked to Armenian Patriarch of Turkey but we could not get a result. Then we got result from our talks with Armenian State University. They will send us two professors," Hulagu said.

"For Hebrew language department, a professor, who is living in Greece, will work at our university. We will also hire professors from Israel," he added.

Erciyes University will work together with universities in Armenia and Israel and plans student exchange programs with these universities.
