PJAK terrorist resumes anti-Iran campaign in TV interview

17 March 2010 [16:24] - TODAY.AZ
The appearance of terrorist ringleader Abdolrahman Haji-Ahmadi on TV screens following his arrest and subsequent release in Germany has sparked outrage among his victims' relatives.
Haji-Ahmadi, the notorious leader of the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK), appeared on the anti-Iran Newroz TV on Monday night for what analyst have described as a 'structured' interview.

During the interview, the PJAK leader said that he was released because he was a German citizen, noting that "no government in the world is allowed to hand-over its citizen to another government."

Although Haji-Ahmadi has been directly implicated in many of PJAK's terror attacks targeting both military personnel and Kurdish civilians in northwestern Iran, the terrorist leader claimed that his group was fighting for democracy.

He also mocked Tehran's assertions that PJAK is backed by Washington, claiming that the US would not give assistance to a group that has been placed in its list of groups that conduct terror acts.

During the interview Haji-Ahmadi also emphasized, "Now that the Islamic Republic is an enemy of the US, we (therefore) fight the system for the rights of the Kurdish nation."

German police arrested the terrorist leader two weeks ago but released him a few days later, allowing him to continue public campaigns in support of the very group that are engaged in terrorist acts. Iran has expressed strong objection to his release, emphasizing that the move contradicted international law.

Observers argue that considering that PJAK is a recognized terrorist group, the indifference of the Germans and other western countries to his release and continuing activities practically amount to their support for his anti-Iranian terrorist network.

Berlin's decision to release Haji-Ahmadi has angered many families that have lost their loved ones in PJAK terrorist attacks in the past decades.

PJAK is an offshoot of the internationally-recognized terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which conducts deadly operations in Kurdish-populated regions of western Iran, northern Iraq and southern Turkey.

Following fierce Iranian objection to Haji-Ahmadi's release from jail in Germany, Berlin has not issued any response explaining the move.
