Turkey welcomes decision to resume Israeli-Palestinian peace talks

Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement which said Turkey considered the decision to re-launch Israeli-Palestinian indirect peace talks a positive step.

"These talks should bear outcome soon, and confidence that has been weakened between the two parties should be re-gained," the statement said.

In its statement, the ministry said Turkey wished indirect talks would lay the groundwork for comprehensive peace negotiations.

The ministry said Turkey expected that the Middle East peace process be revived in all channels in order to achieve comprehensive peace target in the region.

"The international community should assume great responsibilities to prevent this door of opportunity that can lead to peace and stability in the Middle East from being closed again," the ministry said.

The ministry also said Turkey would maintain its active contributions to peace efforts.

Both Israel and the Palestinians have agreed to so-called proximity talks, in a boost to U.S. President Barack Obama's quest to end decades of conflict. Negotiations have been suspended since December 2008.
