Mayor of Turkish town murdered

The mayor of Esençay in the Central Anatolian province of Amasya died in hospital Wednesday after being shot by unknown assailants.

Hospital staff could not save 49-year-old İlhan Arduç of the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, who was shot in front of his house Tuesday.

The father of two was shot three times. Medical teams later moved the critically injured mayor to the Amasya Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin State Hospital. Police operations are continuing to capture the assailants.
