Interior Ministry officers arrested in Georgia

Two employees of the border police and their accomplice were arrested in Georgia over abuse of power and falsification of documents.
According to the Interior Ministry, the arrested are Levan Asitashvili, head of financial and economic department of border police, and David Gedenidze, acting head of the procurement service of the same department.

Their accomplice is Georgi Davituri, the founder and head of Geo Impex.

The crime is connected with the international tender of January 16 2010 for purchase of food worth GEL 2.6 mln [USD 1.55 mln].

Shortly before that day Asitashvili and Gedenidze told about the tender to their friends and urged them to establish own firms, then falsified documents and allowed his friends win.

Gedenidze admitted his guilt fully; Asitashvili and Davituri - partially.

They may be sentenced to 9 years in jail.
