Turkey's foreign trade minister on Wednesday sounded upbeat about the prospects for an increase in country's exports this year, saying that the country targeted to exceed 110 billion USD in 2010.
"Our exports plane has taken-off and the latest figures in January and February look promising that our exports are likely to increase this year," Zafer Caglayan told reporters after a meeting with Pakistani State Minister and Chairman of the Board of Investment Saleem H. Mandviwalla in Ankara.
Turkish exports in February increased 20.34 percent year-on-year according to figures of a Turkish exporters' association.
Exports increased to some 8,227 million USD in February over the same period last year as two-month figures in exports were also up by 16.26 percent to 16,123 million USD.
Caglayan said he considered economic growth, exports and employment as the top priorities of the Turkish economy.
"Price stability does not suffice on its own for economic stability. We need growth, vibrant trade activity and no loss of employment for economic stability," he said.
