02 March 2010 [09:46] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan will travel to Saudi Arabia next week to receive "King Faisal International Prize", Erdogan's office said in a statement on Monday.
Erdogan has been awarded with the King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam, the King Faisal Foundation had announced in January. The award, which is given every year by Saudi Arabia's King Faisal Foundation, is presented to scientists and people who create positive differences in the world and make contributions to Islam.

Erdogan will receive his prize at a ceremony to be held on March 9, the statement said.

"Erdogan, whose achievements, in political and administrative terms, have set an example of judicious leadership in the Islamic world and his contributions during his tenure as mayor of Istanbul have been instrumental to the progress of that city. Following his election as Prime Minister of Turkey, Erdogan has pioneered a major campaign of economic, social and cultural reforms that paved the way for substantial national development and placed Turkey among the world's leading countries, economically and industrially,

He has also rendered an outstanding service to Islam by fiercely defending the rights and just causes of the Islamic nation, particularly the rights of the Palestinian people," the King Faisal Foundation had earlier said.
