Georgian President will propose Richard Holbrooke, U.S. Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan under the Obama Administration, the territory of Georgia for transit of NATO goods to Afghanistan, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Nino Kalandadze announced at the briefing today.
She said that the issue has not been under intensive discussion since the idea of transit was voiced by Georgian authorities; however, the project will be officially proposed if the United States administration and the alliance show interest in it.
With regards to the visit of the US envoy to Georgia, Mrs. Kalandadze said the key issues of discussion at meetings held in Tbilisi will be security and democracy in the country.
"His visit emphasizes the intensity of cooperation between Georgia and the United States," Mrs. Kalandadze said and added the assessment by the U.S. envoy of the Georgian peacekeepers for the Afghan mission was very important.
