Former commander of the Russian Black Sea fleet, deputy of the Russian Duma Vladimir Komoedov, terms the agreement regarding Russian military base on territory of the break-away Abkhazia as an important geopolitical victory.
According to him, the document will enable the Russian fleet to spread out in Ochamchire and Sokhumi.
"It is a very important geopolitical victory, as the Novorossiysk’s base has not been built yet and the Russian Black Sea fleet is mainly deployed in Sevastopol. Henceforth, the Russian fleet will be spread out more widely and consequently become stronger," Komoedov said.
Sokhumi and Moscow signed the document regarding Russian military base on the Abkhazian territory on Feb. 17.
