Turkey complains Greece of restricted land transportation

Caglayan, who arrived in Athens to attend the Turkish Aegean Coast-Greek Aegean Islands Economic Summit, met with Turkish reporters in the Greek capital and informed them on his talks.

Commenting on his meeting with Greek Minister of Economy, Competitiveness & Shipping Louka Katseli, Caglayan pointed to the economic problems Greece was facing nowadays and assessed EU's approach to the issue.

Caglayan said Turkey did everything on its own when it faced a similar situation and there had been no need for an institution's dictation.

Noting that he had shared Turkey's experiences on such matter with Katseli, Caglayan said he also recommended the Greek minister to review her country's foreign trade.

Regarding cooperation opportunities between Turkey and Greece, Caglayan said the current problems hindering the trade between the two countries should be eliminated.

Describing Greece as Turkey's gateway to Europe, Caglayan pointed to the quota procedure applied for Turkey's land transportation to Greece, as well as its transportation to Europe via Greece.

"Trade cannot be carried out freely there," he said.

Caglayan also said that Turkey and Greece could cooperate in numerous sectors such as maritime, transportation, tourism, construction and industry.

Minister Caglayan is expected to depart from Athens on Wednesday.
