Armenian MP: 16-percent downturn in country's economy due to shortage of resources

22 January 2010 [15:16] - TODAY.AZ
The significant slump in Armenian economy in 2009 was due to shortage of resources, Vice Chair of Armenian parliament's Committee on Economic Affairs Vardan Bostanjyan stated trying to justify the 16-percent downturn, adding he does not take it as a tragedy.

He believes in Armenian government’s forecast of 1.2 percent economic growth in 2010.

In 2009, the government promised 9.2 percent economic upturn, however registered 16 percent slump.

"Overall, this indicator is really convenient. The opposition meant to point out the fragilities of the economy and see things in a more realistic light. Luckily they do not speak of 10 percent decline," he said commenting on the statement that oppositional economists forecast 2-3 percent downturn this year.
