Turkish dignitaries expressed their sorrow and condolences to their Haitian counterparts after the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12.
Turkish dignitaries on Thursday expressed their sorrow and condolences to their Haitian counterparts after the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu sent their sorrow and condolences over the major earthquake in Haiti causing serious loss of lives and property.

Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement and said 52 Turkish policemen assigned in United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) were reported to be in good condition.

The statement said, "upon a call from Haitian government for international aid, Turkish Red Crescent sent humanitarian assistance" and expressed Turkey's readiness to provide every kind of support to people of Haiti.

Tens of thousands of people were feared dead and many were believed to be still trapped alive in the rubble of the major magnitude-7.0 quake that hit Haiti's capital on Tuesday. Meanwhile, 16 UN personnel died and 150 others were reported missing.
