Turkey's energy minister attends opening of Turkmenistan-Iran pipeline

Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz attended the inauguration of "Dovletabad-Sarakhs-Khangiran" natural gas pipeline between Turkmenistan and Iran on Wednesday.

Apart from Yildiz, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, Turkmen ministers, heads of diplomatic missions in Turkmenistan, representatives of the energy sector and journalists participated in the inaugural ceremony held at Salaryap region close to Ashkabad.

Speaking at the ceremony, Berdimuhamedow said that his country attached great importance to safe energy transportation, adding that 20 billion cubicmeters of natural gas would be sent to Iran annually through the newly-built Dovletabad-Sarakhs-Khangiran pipeline.

Iranian President Ahmadinejad said in his part that the pipeline project had importance not only for Turkmenistan and Iran but also for all the countries in the region.

"This project will improve the cooperation aiming at the transportation of Turkmen energy resources to world markets and Persian Gulf via Iran," Ahmadinejad added.
