In 2023, greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere in the European Union decreased by 8.3 percent. Such statistics were published by the European Commission, which noted that this is the best indicator in the last 10 years. In 2020, the decline was 9.8 percent, coinciding with the period of the coronavirus pandemic, Azernews reports.
In the United States, one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, the reduction was only 1.4 percent. In India, on the contrary, an increase of 6.1 percent was recorded.
The European Environment Agency reports that greenhouse gas emissions in the Union have decreased by 37 percent compared to 1990 levels. However, much remains to be done to achieve the 2030 and 2050 goals.
