China has decided to suspend consultations with the United States on arms control and non-proliferation due to the sale of weapons by the American side to the administration of the island of Taiwan, Azernews reports.

"For a certain period of time, the United States continued to sell arms to the Taiwan administration, despite China's strong opposition and repeated negotiations. China has decided to suspend the next round of consultations on arms control and non-proliferation with the United States," he said.

The diplomat blamed the American side for the incident and stressed Beijing's readiness to maintain appropriate contacts with Washington "on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation." He called on the United States to "respect China's core interests and create the conditions necessary for dialogue and consultation between the two sides."
