WHO reports over 740,000 new daily cases of COVID-19

More than 740,000 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus have been recorded globally in the past day, pushing a total number of infections to 83.32 million, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its daily bulletin on Sunday, Trend reports citing TASS.

According to the WHO updates, the coronavirus-related deaths increased by over 12,500 to exceed 1.83 million.

As of 20.51 Moscow time on January 3, as many as 83,322,449 coronavirus cases and 1,831,412 coronavirus-related deaths were registered across the globe. The number of confirmed cases grew by 740,221 in the past 24 hours and the number of fatalities increased by 12,502.

The WHO statistics are based only on officially confirmed data provided by countries.

South and North America account for more than 62% of new COVID-19 cases submitted to the WHO in the past 24 hours (477,794). Europe goes second (165,584 cases) followed by South East Asia (27,828).

Most COVID-19 cases are recorded in the United States (19,974,413), followed by India (10,323,965), Brazil (7,700,578), Russia (3,236,787), the UK (2,599,793), France (2,599,127), Italy (2,141,201), Spain (1,893,502), Germany (1,765,666), Colombia (1,654,880), Argentina (1,629,594), and Mexico (1,437,185).
