Kazakhstan's low-cost airline Fly Arystan will begin operation in the near future, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

"In the first half of this year, on the instructions of the head of state, we plan to launch the first national low-cost airline Fly Arystan," Minister of industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar said at a government meeting.

He noted that in the first year of the company’s operation it is planned to transport up to 1 million passengers at prices twice lower than those of the national air carrier Air Astana.

In addition, this year the ministry together with Air Astana will take measures to open flights to Japan, New York, Shanghai and other major cities of the world.

"This year we will start the accreditation procedure for flights to the US. The ministry has prepared a draft intergovernmental agreement on air communication between Kazakhstan and the US, which is scheduled to be signed in March this year," Sklyar said.

He also mentioned the growth in civil aviation traffic in Kazakhstan: the number of transit passengers in 2018 increased by 45 percent year-on-year and amounted to 900,000 people. In 2020, their number is estimated at 1.6 million.
