Russian Gazprom company may resume purchases of Turkmen gas

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received deputy chairman of the government of the Russian Federation, head of the government’s administration Konstantin Chuichenko and chairman of the board of the Russian joint-stock company Gazprom Alexey Miller, the Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary state news agency reported.

Among the topical areas of bilateral partnership is the oil and gas sector, which is strategic for both countries, possessing huge hydrocarbon reserves.

The various aspects of the implementation of the current intergovernmental agreement between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan on cooperation in the gas sector until 2028, including the issues of resuming purchases of Turkmen gas from January 1, 2019 were discussed at the meeting.

The substantive negotiations are currently underway in this area between Gazprom and the Turkmen partners. The concrete agreements will be reached soon.

Gazprom’s interest in the implementation of joint projects in the field of gas processing, etc. was also stressed.
