Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Syria does not hinder bilateral Turkey-Russia relations, the Turkish media cited the country’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu as saying on December 12.

The Russian president visited Damascus on December 11 before visiting Turkey.

Cavusoglu added that the Syrian and Russian presidents repeatedly met earlier and this did not affect the relations between Moscow and Ankara.

"Russia is aware about Turkey's clear position regarding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad,” he said. “The Syrian president will be unable to ensure stability in Syria."

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has claimed more than 500,000 lives.

Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The “Islamic State”, the YPG and the PYD are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
