The number of flights through the territory of Kazakhstan in January-September 2017 increased by 9.7 percent up to 183,000 compared to the same period in 2016,Kazinform reported.

"During the first nine months of the current year, we serviced 183,000 flights, while the growth of air traffic to the corresponding period of 2016 was 9.7 percent," said First Deputy General Director of the Kazaeronavigatsia State Unitary Enterprise Faat Bogdashkin.

He addressing a meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) working group on the development of air traffic routes in the eastern part of the European Region, including the countries of Central Asia said that the growth of transit traffic through airspace stood at the level of 5.2 percent.

The growth in air traffic volumes is due to the holding of a specialized exhibition Expo-2017 in Kazakhstan and many other international forums and events, according to the First Deputy General Director.

At the same time, he hopes that this indicator will grow, because Astana will become an international financial center, the core of the financial infrastructure of Kazakhstan and in the future - a financial hub for the entire Central Asian region, which will promote the development of international air services.

"There are 92 air routes with the length of more than 84,000 kilometers over the territory of Kazakhstan while 73 air corridors pass on the border with neighboring countries. In 2016, we served about 230,000 flights. More than 600 aircraft are controlled daily. The basis of traffic is made up of transit flights in the upper airspace, whose share in the total volume is more than 70 percent," he explained.

As many as 80 percent of the air transit traffic of foreign airlines over the territory of Kazakhstan pass through routes connecting Europe with South-East Asia as well as routes between South Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

"Transcontinental flights from the United States and Canada to India, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Thailand and Singapore along the transpolar route, which are already being carried out, are one of the most promising directions of transit flows through Kazakhstan," he said.

Kazakhstan has airports in Shimkent, Atbasar, Karaganda, Kyzyl-Orda, Balkhash, Burundai, Zaisan, Petropavlovsk, Semipalatinsk, Ust-kamenogorsk, Uralsk, Taldy-Kurgan, Kokshetau, Pavlodar, Zhezkazgan, Atyrau, Zhambyl, Zhairem, Ekibastuz, Almaty, Aktau, Kostanay, Aktyubinsk, Arkalyk, and Astana cities.

Kazakhstan's existing airlines are Air Astana, Air Company MEGA, Avia Jaynar, Bek Air, Berkut Air, Euro-Asia Air, Excellent Glide, Irtysh-Air, SCAT, Semeyavia, Zhetysu, and Zhezkazgan Air.
