Russia, EU to discuss gas supplies via Turkish Stream

Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker will discuss resumption of the EU-Russia energy dialogue on the sidelines of G20 summit in Hamburg, RIA Novosti quoted Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov as saying.

The heads of Russia and the European Commission in particular will discuss gas supplies to Europe via Turkish Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines, Ushakov told journalists.

The G20 summit will be held in Hamburg on July 7-8.

Russia and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on the implementation of the Turkish Stream project in October 2016. The agreement envisages construction of two branches of the main gas pipeline through the Black Sea, the capacity of each branch being 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas. One branch is meant to supply gas directly to the Turkish market and the other for the supply of gas by transit through Turkey to Europe. Initially, Russia and Turkey planned to build four branches of the pipeline. Russian Gazprom began laying pipes for the Turkish Stream pipeline off the Russian Black Sea coast in early May 2017.

Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline project for Russian gas supplies to Europe. Measuring over 1,200 km in length, Nord Stream 2 will travel from the coast of Russia, through the Baltic Sea, reaching landfall near Greifswald in Germany. Nord Stream 2 will largely follow the route of the existing Nord Stream pipeline. The pipeline is planned for completing by the end of 2019.
