Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has departed from Tehran for an official visit to Moscow at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, IRNA reported.

The sides are expected to ink about 10 documents for expansion of cooperation in various areas, particularly in economic, trade and industrial spheres during the two-day visit.

Trade turnover between the two countries saw a huge surge over the past year, rising by 80 percent to more than $2 billion, with energy, agriculture and defense sales forming the bulk of the transactions.

Iran and Russia have targeted to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $10 billion over the coming three years.
