Iran and Russia's Gazprom are negotiating to carry out joint projects, Iran’s deputy oil ministry, Hamid Reza Araqi, said.

One of the projects is joint export of natural gas, Araqi, who heads National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), said, Fars news agency reported Mar. 23.

Iran and Russia are not rivals in the gas sector, he said, adding that joint activities in this sector will be beneficial for the both sides.

Araqi further said that a joint working group has been formed to determine possible projects and joint activities.

The two sides also have formed a joint working group to study gas export to Europe and Eastern Asia, he said.

Iran and Russia have the ability to export gas and carry out gas storage projects, Araqi added.

However, he noted that no joint project has been determined so far, forecasting that the projects will be determined and implemented this year.
