The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan has nominated Bekmyrat Ataliev, chairman of the commercial bank Ryskal, as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election in the country, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service reported.
The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs is a big public organization of Turkmenistan that unites about 14,500 representatives of local businesses.
Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was nominated as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election from Democratic Party on December 15.
The campaign on nomination of candidates continues. The name of candidate from the Agrarian Party will be announced on December 17.
Currently, initiative groups continue to collect signatures [at least 10,000 signatures under the Electoral Code] for the registration of each of the candidates nominated for the highest state position.
The registration process of candidates will start on December 24, and then their speeches in media.
Under the decision of the Turkmen parliament, the presidential election will be held on February 12, 2017
