Turkmenistan stepping up modernization of refineries

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the government a number of instructions for technical re-equipment of oil refineries, the Turkmenistan TV channel reported Nov. 22.

The issue was discussed at a meeting of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, where Berdimuhamedov stressed the need to improve the efficiency of oil and gas industry.

Turkmenistan annually produces about 10 million tons of oil, the biggest part of which is processed at two refineries in the cities of Turkmenbashi and Seydi.

Earlier it was reported that it is planned to build several other refineries in Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan plans to bring the capacity of the oil refining industry to 20 million tons in 2020, to 22 million tons in 2025 and to 30 million tons in 2030.
