Iran, Russia expand cooperation in nanotechnologies

Iran and Russia will expand a bilateral cooperation in the sector of nanotechnologies.

The two countries clinched an agreement on 16 cases for nano cooperation during the 3^rdIran-Russia High Commission on Nanotechnology Cooperation held in Moscow earlier this June, Saeid Sarkar, Head of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) told Iranian Mehr news agency on June 13.

Sarkar noted that the sides also took decisions about 12 cases for nano cooperation.

Both sides will benefit from this cooperation, he said, highlighting the progress Russia has made in the technology sector and Iran’s achievements in the field of advanced technologies such as nano, bio, cognitive sciences and technological convergence.

Russia agreed to provide Iranian researchers with its infrastructures, said Sarkar, adding that this is actually a very special opportunity for them.

Russia has requested for Iran’s carbon nanotubes and will begin the technology transfer from Iran after evaluation, he added.

In addition, a number of technologies such as anti-corrosion coatings will be transferred to Iran, Sarkar said.

In May, Iran and Russia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on providing standards for labeling of nano products in Tehran.

Iran-Russia High Commission on Nanotechnology Cooperation was established last year and comprises 10 specialist committees and sub-committees in the fields of space and aeronautics, nanotechnology, biological and medical technology, energy, and information technology.

Cooperation between Russia and Iran covers many fields including various economic sectors, military, railways, etc.

Tehran and Moscow also share the same stance towards various regional issues including the ongoing crisis in Syria.
