Last month, 21-year old serviceman Hovhannes Poghosyan got severely wounded near the Talish village in Armenian-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as a result of skirmish between the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops.

He had surgery, but is still in come. But, it would never have happened, if the Armenian Army was not pumping up manpower statistics to show its “strength”.

“Hovhannes was suffering from chronic gastritis and spleen enlargement. He was keeping a strict diet at home. But despite its critical health state, he was drafted and deployed to the frontline. How can soldier with such health problems sent to the frontline,” asked Poghosyan’s relatives talking to NEWS.am.

As the Sargsyan regime scrambles to pour more soldiers into the occupied territories, the army is deploying troops with injuries and other medical problems, including those who are medically unfit for battle.

“This should not be,” said an Armenian soldier, who was talking to media on conditions of anonymity. He was sent to the frontline even though he has a spine problem that doctors say would be damaged further during the fight.

Most recently, a scandal erupted due to Yazidi soldier, a disabled person, who was sent to serve in Karabakh. Tosun Smoyan, as stated in “Sinjar” Yazidi National Union head Boris Murazi’s open letter, has problems with the nerves and blood vessels in his right hand which can only be resolved by surgical intervention.

“He was sent to the Central Military Hospital in Yerevan after an appeal. The young man, however, received no treatment and was drafted into the army. Despite the fact that [Smoyan's] condition continues to worsen, and he is physically unable to bear arms, the soldier is stationed in combat duty positions. So we're basically putting the soldier's life in danger,” Murazi wrote.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Artsrun Hovhannisyan, then commented on Murazi's note, claiming that “there is and can be no talk of discharging [Smoyan] at this point.”

All the above mentioned proves that soldiers who are classified as medically unfit to fight are now being sent to war for the occupied territories. This is not an isolated incident, but a trend in the Armenian Army.

Overall, the Armenian authorities’ approach to the issue of service on the front line is quite "unique".

There was recently uncovered another troubling development in Yerevan’s efforts to shore up troop levels. Despite it was recently equipped with elderly and women, who did not make much sense for Armenian army’s power capability, now the time has come for prisoners to serve in army.

Serzh Sargsyan recently pardoned eight convicted in order to make them fight for “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”. On May 15, the young inmates released and then they were sent to the front line.

In a nutshell, the Sargsyan regime tends to send patients, criminals, politically unreliable persons to the front. That is, the service in Karabakh is a kind of sump. As “ill-born” Spartan babies were tossed into a chasm , today's Armenia sends ‘unnecessary’ people to the death on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

And while the authorities continue to deploy troops with physical limitations to the occupied territories, disciplinary, spiritual-psychological and physical state of the military servicemen worsens in the Armenian Army.

Besides indiscipline and arbitrariness, unmilitary losses increased in the Armenian army. A number of facts of death and injury as a result of “violation of weapon usage rules” were recorded in the Armenian army in 2015, while the number of suicide attempts and suicides is also on rise.

Human rights groups contend that most army suicides are in reality homicides, and that army officers often tamper with evidence and cover up these crimes.

Sevak Khachatryan’s body, with a gunshot wound to the head, was found at a military outpost in early April 2016. Dead body of Hovhannes Petrosyan was found in one of the barracks of the military units in Ijevan, Armenia.

Causes of death of Petrosyan and Khachatryan are still to be established.

Two Armenian soldiers, named as Private Igor Hakobyan and Private Koryun Harutyunyan, are the latest soldiers who died in unknown circumstances while serving in Karabakh.

External examination revealed no signs of violence, gunshot or shrapnel wounds. Forensic examination and investigation is still underway to clarify circumstances of the incident.

Armenian media claims that negative cases in the army happen because of the
corruption, spending finance for buying weapons and military equipments, as well as law material and social life conditions of officers.
